Muskego-Norway Schools uses a strategic assessment system to inform decisions at the classroom, school, and district levels. Different types of assessment include formative, interim/benchmark, and summative assessments.  We implement a thoughtful selection of assessment tools and practices to directly impact student achievement.

Wisconsin Student Assessment System

The Wisconsin Student Assessment System (WSAS) is a comprehensive statewide program designed to provide information about what students know in core academic areas and whether they can apply what they know. The WSAS includes:

• aimswebPLUS at grades 4K-3 measures phonological awareness, phonics, alphabet knowledge, oral vocabulary, and decoding skills. This assessment is taken fall and spring by 4K students and fall, winter and spring by K-3rd grade students. 
• The Wisconsin Forward Exam at grades 3-8 in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics, at grades 4 and 8 in Science, and 4, 8, and 10 in Social Studies. This assessment is taken in spring.  
• Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) at grades 3-11 in ELA and Mathematics, at grades 4 and 8 - 11 in Science, and at grades 4, 8, and 10 in Social Studies. This assessment is taken in winter. 
• PreACT Secure at grades 9 & 10. This assessment is taken in spring. 
• The ACT Plus Writing at grade 11 for Reading, English, Mathematics, Science, and Writing at grade 11. This assessment is taken in spring. 

Student performance on WSAS can be reviewed for Muskego-Norway School District and other school districts on the Wisconsin Information System for Education. District Assessments

Additional district assessments are used to inform instruction.  Assessment results will be communicated by your child's classroom teacher. The district assessments include:

• STAR Math at grades 1-4 as the math universal screener 
• FastBridge Math at Kindergarten as the math universal screener
• STAR Reading at grade 4 as a universal screener
• aimswebPLUS at grades 4K-3 as a universal screener 
• iReady Reading and iReady Math in grades 5-8 as a universal screener
• CogAT at grades 3 and 5
• FastBridge as needed in grades K-8  
• PreACT in grades 9-10
• Practice ACT in grade 11
• Grading and Reporting Practices
